VIGNETTES
A selection of vignettes created by Sallie Whistler Marcucci from 1951 to 2011
Parallel to Sallie Whistler Marcucci’s stage designing and painting, the artist has always used cartoons as a visual vehicle for expressing her sense of humor. She first started with Christmas cards and a travel diary in 1951. When she married an Italian journalist, she began illustrating his and other people’s articles and books. Her illustrations where on all sorts of disparate subjects like fishing, palm-reading, stars, Greek myths, yoga, romantic stories about harems, ghosts and so forth.
In 2010 she published “Cartoons By Sallie” with Editrice Innocenti - a collection of vignettes and cartoons that appeared through the years in The Miami News, The Atlanta Journal & Constitution, The Dayton Journal Herald, La Nazione and La Nazione Sera (of Florence), Il Resto Del Carlino (of Bologna), Il Messaggero (of Rome), La Repubblica (of Rome), Effe (of Milan) and Allegro Romano (of Rome).
In 2011, for the closing reception of her solo exhibition at LA Artcore, Sallie Whistler Marcucci presented new vignettes inspired from her time spent in Southern California (watch VIDEO)
